Eagle Eye AA
Innovative eddy current sensor for the detection of layers, butt joints and edges in semi-finished products

Eagle Eye AA

Roland Electronic offers a remarkable solution with its new product „Eagle Eye AA” for mechanical engineering. It refers to an innovative sensor idea based on the universal inductive sensor principle. In order to emphasize the particular characteristics, Roland decided to label the sensor „Eagle Eye AA“. The decision was not taken without a good reason: The term refers to the eagle’s special capacity to simultaneously scan a large area for prey very similar to Argus, who was a hundred-eyed giant in Greek mythology.

Weld seam detection sensor NS9N-AAD-SC
Weld Seam Detection in Narrow Steel Strips

NS9N-AAD-SC

Narrow gauge steel strips are used in various industries as cost-effective semi-finished products. Typically the strips are supplied on a reel for further processing, e.g. in stamping presses. To ensure continuous production, the strip end of the finished reel is welded to the beginning strip of the new reel.
Normally the weld seam cannot be processed but must be cut out. This is necessary for tool protection but also for mechanical and optical reasons. A reliable detection of the weld in automated processes is therefore absolutely necessary.

Single-Sided Double Sheet Detection of Thick Blanks

The automation of sheet metal processing expands continuously into new areas. Until now automated destacking and double sheet detection applied primarily to thin sheets used in metal packaging and automotive applications. But new requirements call for double sheet detection for blanks as thick as 12 mm used for structural components in truck manufacturing or shipbuilding.

Single-Sided Double Sheet Detection System for Steel, Non-magnetic Stainless Steel and Aluminum

Roland Electronic has added the system I100-S-WI to the low-cost series R100. It is especially well suited for the metal packaging industry because of its capability to measure tinplate and aluminum single-sidedly. In addition, it is also capable to measure  nonmagnetic stainless steel up to 3 mm sheet thickness.

Sensor for Single-Sided Noncontact Control of Crystalline Solar Wafers

During the production of solar wafers strings, these crystalline wafers are automatically destacked with vacuum grippers.  During this process more than one wafer can be   inadvertently removed from the stack.  If this duplication is not detected then the additional wafer will sooner or later fall down and burst in many pieces.  This debris will ruin other wafer strings increasing unnecessarily the scrap rate.

Mix up of Hardness and Material Grade detected with Eddy Current Comparator I 20

During the production of safety relevant fixture parts, for instance, for automotive seat frames, one must ensure that all assembled parts also hardened. The same applies to products, which are exposed to extended wear and tear in order to avoid early failures. In this application the customer wanted to test sheet metal parts of the approximate size of 70 x 80 mm up to 75 x 150 mm. As the parts are assembled in an automatic production line these tests must be done automatically in order to identify parts which not hardened or have other defects in order to eliminate them from the process.
