Double Sheet Detection with continuous monitoring

A novel Double Sheet Detection System with appropriately adapted laser sensors enables a seamless monitoring. Double sheets can be monitored for maintenance with maximum process safety. Due to the laser measurement technique, the system is suitable for all opaque materials with a single sheet / thickness from 0.3 to 15 mm.

Until now, it has not been possible to continuously monitor the measuring system when checking for double sheets using conventional laser sensor measurements. A new type of double sheet check, which also works on the principle of triangulation using laser sensors, has now been adapted accordingly. The laser sensors have been modified by Roland Electronic in such a way that continuous monitoring of the measuring system is possible for the first time.

Laser beam and alignment are constantly monitored for double sheet detection

This required the development of a method and a device that would allow the laser beam itself and its alignment to be constantly monitored. The solution consists of an integrated photoreceptor that receives the laser light without disturbing the beam. The big advantage here is that double sheets can be monitored with maximum process reliability and without maintenance.

Thanks to the laser measurement technology, the system is suitable for all opaque materials with a single sheet/sheet thickness of 0.3 to 15 mm. It does not matter whether the material is stationary or in motion during measurement. A Laas 40+ sensor system includes two LAS 40 and LAS 40+ laser distance sensors, which can be easily installed with a mounting kit without the usual time-consuming alignment of the laser beams. The LAS 40+ laser distance sensor has a photoelectric element for monitoring the laser function. According to the manufacturer, this ensures outstanding process reliability because contamination or misalignment of the laser is reliably detected.

Lower sensor for double sheet metal control is cleaned automatically

The Laars 40+, which is additionally equipped with an LRS 40 laser sensor, offers even greater safety. This allows the mounting distance between the two measuring sensors to be controlled. This is particularly useful for widely spaced plant components, as thermal or mechanical distance deviations in steel components cannot always be avoided.

Both sensor systems have an air connection that can be used to automatically clean the lower sensor with dry, oil-free air. Both sensor systems can be connected to the associated L20 evaluation device. The integrated real-time computer determines and monitors the material thickness and can also output this information via the fieldbus.
