The sensors and the analysis methods comply with the modern steels and alloys that are used in today's automobiles. The control units are capable to communicate with all modern fieldbus systems of higher-level machine controls, the PLCs.

Structural automotive parts and safety relevant components are increasingly manufactured out of welded tubes often with additional hydroforming methods. For the weld seam detection and tube seam positioning in tube loader and tube beding machines ROLAND ELECTRONIC delivers weld seam detectors based on magnetic flux leakage and eddy current methods.

Destacker

Typical applications of a single-sided double sheet detection system. The sensor is mounted in a spring-loaded vacuum cup assembly. The suction cup has no lifting function; its sole purpose is pressing the sensor vertically against the sheet.

Spring lathe coiler

This application demonstrates the detection of overlapping weld seams of spring steel strips. 

In this process it can happen that the weld seam stops inside the encircling coil. Even in this case we offer best possible weld seam detection.

Manufacturing of Mufflers

To ensure a safe processing, during manufacturing of the muffler, the right positioning of the weld seam is crucial.

Manufacturing of gas tubes

During the manufacturing of gas tubes, some welded tube connections can occur. These need to be detected, to be removed from the material.

Manufacturing of catalytic converters

Weld Seam Detection during the processing of tube ends for automotive catalytic converters. 

A special feature of this application is the vertical position of the catalytic converter tubing and the horizontal movement of the sensor NS9S.

Blanking Press Line

The material which is brought into the press line often comes as an endless welded coil. To make sure, that there are no weld seams in the end product, there needs to be a weld seam detection station.

Crack test of automotive components

During the production of automotive components, the metal forming is an elementary process step. Experience shows that automated testing has become indispensable in order to fulfill high quality expectations of the automobile industry for the components.

Forming processes such as a bending, pressing or hydraulic forming may cause cracks, particularly if the structure of the semi-finished material is not completely normalized. A good example is offered by welded tubes. 
An automated monitoring can help, as the function of components with the presence of cracks is drastically affected and leads to a reduced life span.

No supplier can afford the recall of thousands of components and certainly not regarding the inevitable damage to customer relationships.

    Makes crack tests of the components possible using the eddy current principle. The surface of the critical points is monitored thereby by one or more eddy current probes.

Sorting and testing machine

Structure testing for the inspection of retaining rings according to DIN471. It is checked whether the parts are hardened or not.

Tube loader and tube bending machine

Tube bending line consisting of a tube loader with weld seam detection and positioning, a robot loader and a separate tube bending machine.

The tubes are processed in a hydroforming press to rear axles. 

The exact position of the weld is required to ensure the stability of the rear axles.
